Juancho Hernangomez: “In Boston, I lost my taste for basketball”

We forget it but the Celtics had a different face until February, since we found Dennis Schroder, Josh Richardson, Enes Freedom, but also Juancho Hernangomez. Little used by Ime Udoka, he was first transferred to Spurs. Over there, same scenario since it does not enter the plans of Gregg Popovich, and here it is which redo its bags for Jazz.

In Salt Lake City, Juancho Hernangomez finally got playing time, averaging 17 minutes in 17 games (including 9 starts) in the regular season, for averages of 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds. In the playoffs, he found the end of the bench (55 minutes in six matches), and it is not at all certain that he is still in the squad since the Jazz have control over their future, with the possibility of failing to secure his final year of contract at $6.6 million.

If so, what will he do?

« I can’t imagine going back to Europe he warned in El País. « This is not a lack of respect towards the ACB (Spanish league) or the Euroleague. On the contrary even since I do not see it as a setback in my career. But when they talk regarding Madrid, Barça, CSKA, I don’t care… I don’t support any team. I haven’t spoken to anyone, or signed anything. »

“I didn’t know what they expected of me. There were a lot of selfish players, and no collective.

A priori, if it is cut, it will therefore not return to Europe. At 26, he thinks he has a place at the Jazz or elsewhere, and he also returned to his failed stint at the Celtics.

“I was not happy there. It was very hard” he confides. “There was no communication. I didn’t know what they expected of me. There were a lot of selfish players, and no collective. I lost my taste for basketball a bit. »

Today, the Celtics are in the NBA Finals, and they have even regained home court advantage. And we praise their collective…
