Juan Ramón de la Fuente offers to strengthen the Mexican foreign service

MEXICO CITY.- This Thursday, Juan Ramón de la Fuente Ramírezholder of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), stressed that he has no other agenda other than that of strengthen the Mexican foreign serviceand called the officials of the Foreign Ministry to “revitalize diplomacy”, “shake inertia” and give continuity to the transformation of public life with foreign policy.

In his first message as chancellor to Foreign Affairs officials, Juan Ramón de la Fuente thanked them and recognized their work, talent, experience and capacity in the agency, and called on them to give “the extra effort” because, he said, it is time to show “the enormous capacity” that the SRE has in the face of this historic moment.

“Revitalize our diplomacy, with all that it implies, with objectivity and rigor (…). I want to tell you very clearly, colleagues, that I have no other agenda than to strengthen the Mexican foreign service, I come to work shoulder to shoulder with all of you, I come to think and rethink with you. The best role that can come to Mexico in this international context in which we are immersed, to understand objectively, with intelligence, the enormous geopolitical challenges that we face, and our first obligation in this exercise will be to confirm that above all we are here to defend national sovereignty and the interests of Mexico“he declared.

“Many things will continue to change, but there is something that will not change because it remains completely valid, and those are the normative principles of our foreign policy, embodied in the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States (…)”, he declared.

“We will make the defense of the communities of our compatriots a foreign policy priority of this six-year term,” said De la Fuente.

The chancellor called to rethink Mexico’s role in the face of changes in the world and highlighted feminist foreign policy: “I ask you to help me so that in the coming years we can achieve true equality between men and women in our representations in the world.” world”.

“Help me so that in these coming years, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs there are better opportunities for women, greater opportunities for young people,” she mentioned.

“We also have to take advantage of the opportunity to shake certain inertias that still prevail, to modernize some practices that have become obsolete, to rigorously and objectively review our work methods,” he noted.

De la Fuente Ramírez celebrated the arrival of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as the first female president of Mexico: “May the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in these years shine intensely with the light it has, but also contribute to giving shine to the first government of a woman in the United Mexican States.”

By highlighting the popular support for Sheinbaum’s government, the chancellor asked to project to the whole world, with objectivity and veracity, what is happening in Mexico “because it is a truly historic process” and exemplary for the international community.

He thanked his predecessors in the last government, Marcelo Ebrard and Alicia Bárcena, and hoped to be ratified in the coming days in the Senate.

On the immigration issue, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs highlighted the human mobility model but noted that it needs to be polished.
