Juan José Camero in Critical Condition: An Outpouring of Support as the Renowned Actor Battles Health and Financial Challenges

The Argentine actor of film, television, and theater Juan José Camero, 80 years old, is facing serious health complications. “Juan José Camero needs us. He is hospitalized at the Clínica Modelo de Caseros: a visit, a letter, a call, anything would mean a lot of company for him. We can help through love and support,” called out the playwright Florencia Aroldi this Tuesday, and today she added an update on Camero’s health condition.

The star of Leonardo Favio’s classic, Nazareno Cruz and the Wolf, had to undergo surgery for an intestinal obstruction and is in critical condition. “He would say: ‘I don’t want to bother, there are people who are worse off than I am.’ But yesterday he called me and said: ‘I’m here, please come.’ He is very alone and needs company,” requested his friend, who celebrated today: “They will have to disconnect the phone because people keep calling. I just took a couple of calls from women crying, giving him love. All this affection gives him incredible vitality.”

“He was moved to a private room. He is stable and today he was a bit better”, announced Aroldi, daughter of actor Norberto Aroldi and actress María Ibarreta. In an interview with La Nación, Camero shared: “My feelings imploded”, grateful for the displays of affection he received in 24 hours. This year, Camero revealed that he was a victim of a virtual scam that emptied his bank account, where he had his savings to face a health treatment.

This does not please authoritarians

The exercise of professional and critical journalism is a fundamental pillar of democracy. That’s why it bothers those who believe they are the owners of the truth.

The condition Camero suffers from is called bilateral maculopathy

“That night I couldn’t sleep, my blood pressure went to 20 and I narrowly missed having a stroke. I couldn’t stop the anguish and impotence. I have to accept that in these times I am illiterate, now I am all fearful,” he explained at that moment in an interview with Telefe Noticias. “This is not something I share to evoke pity or sadness, but out of my essence of loyalty and sincerity with those I relate to: the fog has covered my eyes. I can’t read or write like before. I have tried countless treatments for years that haven’t worked,” he elaborated.

“My blindness is not total: I can walk around my house without tripping, lean out the window and vaguely make out the gifts of nature. I have relative blindness because I have 10% of my vision capacity and it is irreversible. The condition is called ‘bilateral maculopathy’,” the actor detailed in February. “But I do not consider myself the champion of misfortune, nor the standard-bearer of human pain,” he assured in a statement.

The new medical report on Jorge Lanata: he is tracheostomized and connected to mechanical ventilation with low support.

Juan José Camero’s difficulties are also financial

The artist is also facing financial hardships, Florencia Aroldi reported. “Despite having been a cultural attaché in Paraguay for ten years, his retirement benefits are stuck at Anses. He is living off his savings and wants to sell his house because he is receiving a minimal amount that does not cover his expenses,” detailed the playwright.

“Juan José feels that all the sadness he is going through due to his economic situation and his desire not to receive privileges, but just what he deserves, deeply affects him. He says that what happens to his body reflects what he feels in his soul,” expressed the playwright and writer. “He was a cultural attaché for 10 years in Paraguay, which entitles him to a higher retirement because of this work,” she explained.

After the call for support, the actors’ guild responded, and SAGAI (Argentine Society of Management of Actor-Interpreters) got in touch to offer him financial assistance, Infobae reported. Despite these signs of support, Aroldi emphasized that it is still necessary to unlock the file at Anses so that Camero can access a dignified retirement appropriate to his years of work as a cultural attaché in Paraguay.
