After working until December 26, 2021 as Itinerant Ad Honorem Ambassador of Ecuador for strategic issues, Juan Carlos Holguín will be the new Foreign Minister of Ecuador. This was confirmed by President Guillermo Lasso on his Twitter account.
Holguín will be inaugurated this Monday, January 3, 2022 as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He replaces Mauricio Montalvo, who had been in office since May 24, 2021.
“The Foreign Ministry will take office this Monday, January 3 following I have decided to entrust new functions to the current Chancellor, Montalvo, which will be announced tomorrow during the award ceremony with which I will thank his services,” the tweet reads.
The reinforcement in the team is intended to underpin the main goal of the government in its foreign policy: to promote trade agreements and open the economy to the world to continue the reactivation of foreign investment and employment.

Holguín was a candidate for Mayor of Quito for the Creo movement. He is an Ecuadorian businessman with a degree in Corporate Communication and Public Relations. He also has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Georgetown University.
