A commemorative ceremony was held on the 4th at Kamimenai Station on the JR Yamada Line in Kamiumai, Morioka City, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the station’s opening. A commemorative project is planned by local people. Sansa dance and other performances enlivened the venue, and residents waved commemorative flags to welcome the train as it arrived at the station.
At the ceremony, members of the Shogahata Folk Performing Arts Promotion Association and others performed the Sansa dance. Lacquer-related goods were displayed inside the station building, and soba noodles and potato roe soup were sold at the workshop “Yukko Yonaimura” in front of the station.
The commemorative events starting on the 3rd are sponsored by an executive committee made up of local residents.
Kimito Kubo, manager of the JR Morioka branch, said, “Kamimenai Station is a pioneering station that was reborn in response to requests from the local community that they wanted to preserve it.The key to local lines is how to increase daily use. I would like to exchange information with them and consider ways to maintain them.”
The commemorative event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the 5th.
