On the 16th, JR East decided to name the town of Shinagawa development project “TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY”. Previously called “Takanawa Gateway City (provisional name)”, the English name will be the official name, and the aim is to open in March 2025. We announced the name and logo this time, and also announced that KDDI will be a co-creation partner. In addition, KDDI will relocate its headquarters to Takanawa Gateway by March 2025 to realize a new decentralized smart city.

TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, which will be “the largest urban development in the history of JR East,” will consist of 4 blocks of complex building I (North and South), 3 blocks of complex building II, 2 blocks of cultural creation building, and 1 block of residential building. be. In March 2025, complex building I, the area around Takanawa Gateway Station, will open, and MICE facilities, offices, commercial facilities, a plaza around the station, and a pedestrian deck will be developed. Other areas are scheduled to open in 2025.

Positioning the entire city as a “testing ground”, we will promote sustainable urban development by environmental boatmen.

Various parks were born under the concept of “53 Playable Park” in an open space of about 4ha, which is one of the largest in Tokyo. The Takanawa embankment, which was built 150 years ago and has been designated as a national historic site, will be preserved locally, and the memory of Japan’s first railway running as a place of innovation will be passed on to the next 100 years.

53 Playable Park is a facility with an exhaust gusset inspired by the fifty-three stages of the Tokaido, and has a green of about 2.7ha. It is said that you can feel the four seasons of Japan by incorporating the surrounding water system, topography, and vegetation.

A new south ticket gate has been installed at Takanawa Gateway Station, and multiple stores have opened around the new development. “The station will become a park-like playground and place of relaxation.” A botanical rooftop of about 2,000 tsubo will also be built on the 28th and 29th floors of the complex I North.

In addition, together with partners, the entire city has been constructed as a testing ground for the fusion of cyberspace (virtual space) and physical space (real space). In addition to setting up an incubation facility and an environmental life science laboratory (provisional name) in the complex building, we will participate in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s Project PLATEAU and perform area management that makes use of the 3D city model space.

Co-creation partner KDDI will move its headquarters from the current Iidabashi to Takanawa Gateway in the spring of 2025. We will build a “City OS” that will serve as a data platform for collecting and analyzing data related to city facilities and people, such as reflecting the behavioral data of 12,000 employees in urban planning.

KDDI’s head office will be the complex building I North of “TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY”, and many of the telecommunications and financial group companies will also be consolidated.

Environmental energy measures and an energy management system will be introduced to reduce CO2 emissions to “zero”. Details will be reported later.
