The new exhibition with works by Peter Atzbach in the Laubach Yogastudio Ananda is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.

Laubach (hgt). With the works of the artist Peter Atzbach, one can currently embark on a journey into the mystical world of the American poet, writer, editor and literary critic Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849). The laudation for the exhibition in the Yogastudio Ananda was held by the chairman of the Laubach art and culture forum, Arnold Schleier, on behalf of and with the text by Nikolett Simon MA, director of the Stadtgalerie Wetzlar. Atzbach had already exhibited in the Laubach Dollhouse Museum in 2013 and in the Castle Gallery in 2015.

Poe is considered the father of short stories, the inventor of detective stories and, above all, the grand master of horror literature. Poe made the raven a supernatural symbol of the followinglife.

His life was overshadowed by numerous tragic events. His father is said to have left the family the year he was born and he lost his mother when he was two years old. Later came the loss of his cousin and wife Virginia Poe, who was suffering from tuberculosis, and whose suffering is said to have inspired him to write his works.

master of drawings

One of his most famous quotes was: »The death of a beautiful woman is truly the most poetic subject in the world«. His own death was also tragic, because on October 3, 1849 the exceptional writer was found confused in front of a New York bar and he died shortly followingwards in a hospital. The cause of death is unknown to this day.

Poe’s works represent a main source of inspiration for Atzbach’s artistic personality. He has been artistically active in Wetzlar for 35 years and in his works he primarily uses the genres of horror and fantasy. Atzbach enters mentally into an illustration, where he benefits from his artistic freedom. World-famous stories are presented from his very own perspective. The artist is a master of fine ink, pen, pencil and colored pencil drawings. In the exhibition you can meet the mysterious protagonist »Ligeia«, who deals with the loss of a beloved wife.

Dreamlike backdrops, mystical female figures and depictions of ravens meet the visitor in the exhibition on a journey with ink and pen through a fantastic world, which also includes »The Little King«, whose character was invented by Atzbach. In addition to the exhibition, Janna Schleier will read two short stories and a lyrical work by the author on February 25 at 4 p.m.

Laubach associated with the arts

Laubach’s Mayor Matthias Meyer, who also came to the opening of the exhibition with his wife Lena, was pleased that following a three-year break, an art exhibition might be conceived once more, which shows how closely Laubach is connected to the arts. The premises of the yoga studio on the market square are ideally suited for exhibitions. It has a delicious gastronomic offer and a suitable setting for art, relaxation and communication.

The opening hours of Ananda are also the opening hours of the art exhibition, i.e. Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All works can be purchased, admission is free.
