The Montreal Canadiens rewarded their hope Joshua Roy by granting him a three-year entry contract valid for next season on Wednesday.

The pact includes a signing bonus of $92,500. If Roy ends up in the National League in 2022-23, he will earn a salary of $750,000; in the American League, his annual compensation will be set at $80,000.
The fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft of the Bettman circuit ranks second in points in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) with 92 points. Having hit the target 36 times with the Sherbrooke Phoenix this year, the left winger has amassed 171 points in 145 games since his debut on the Courteau circuit.
“Congratulations to Joshua Roy who has just signed a three-year entry contract with the Canadian,” said the Phoenix on his Twitter account.
Roy had been the very first choice of the QMJHL auction in 2019, but his popularity rating declined therefollowing. It was also listed at 66e ranking of North American prospects for the 2021 National Hockey League (NHL) draft. The Habs finally selected him with the 150e speaking turn.
After having had a good training camp with the Canadiens last summer, the 18-year-old started to dominate in the juniors. He also obtained an invitation to the Junior Team Canada camp, without however being able to break into the prestigious formation.
“My physical conditioning made all the difference,” Roy told the NHL website two weeks ago.
“When I arrived in Sherbrooke, I was not in good shape, continued the man who played his first two seasons in the QMJHL with the Saint John Sea Dogs. I realized I was behind on this level, and that was a red flag. I needed to improve my conditioning and I worked on it. That’s the key to my success this season.”
