European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Monday urged Donald Trump to share his “magic formula” for peace in Ukraine, following the former US president said he might put an end to the ongoing war in 24 hours.
“I thought miracles only happened in Lourdes,” Borrell said, referring to the Catholic pilgrimage site in France.
He added, “We might not come up with a magic formula to solve the problem in 24 hours, but as I understand it, President (Volodymyr) Zelensky invited President Trump to come to Kiev and find a solution quickly.”
He continued, “Those who want peace more than anything else and those who want to end the war more than anything else are of course the Ukrainians, and I am confident that they will be happy if President Trump can give them the magic formula to end the war in 24 hours.”
Trump, the most likely candidate to win the Republican Party’s nomination for the US presidential elections scheduled for November, has repeatedly said that he is capable of putting an end to the war launched by Russia in one day if he returns to power.
The former reality TV star opposes providing additional aid to Ukraine, which President Joe Biden calls for to provide Kiev, considering that it represents extravagance and that Russia will likely emerge victorious.
The Ukrainian president acknowledged that if Trump wins the presidency at the end of this year, the Republican billionaire will likely follow a “different policy” toward the war.
