Club Pachuca, a team that competes in the Liga BBVA MX – the First Division of professional soccer in Mexico – reported that José Salomón Rondón was awarded the Forward of the Year award, following standing out in the 2024 Clausura Tournament.
“Rondón’s first tournament in Mexico and #GoldenBall for forward of the year in @ligabbvamx (Instagram account of Liga BBVA MX),” the Hidalgo team posted on social media.
Rondón, captain of the Venezuelan national team at the 2024 Copa América in the United States, received the Golden Ball for his work with Los Tuzos, with whom he scored 10 goals in 21 games played in the tournament that closed the 2023-2024 season of Mexican professional football.
According to statistics portal Soccerway, the 34-year-old striker from Caracas earned the distinction in a match in which he started 16 times, remained on the field for 1,592 minutes and only received three warnings.
Other numbers
Rondón’s performance, who scored two goals for La Vinotinto in the United States 2024, was not limited to standing out on the domestic level, as he also stood out in another competition that did not influence his receiving the statuette, but which was important for the blue and white team to stand out internationally.
At the Concacaf Champions Cup, the main soccer event for teams from North, Central America and the Caribbean, he scored nine goals in seven matches played with Club Pachuca and put them on track to lift the trophy in 2024. This allowed him to be both the top scorer and Most Valuable Player (MVP) of that event.
The striker is undoubtedly going through a great moment and will now focus on excelling with Venezuela next Friday when that team challenges Canada in the quarterfinals of the Copa América. His goal will be to help the granate team reach the semifinals, something that was achieved for the first and only time in Argentina 2011.
