Barcelona’s memories of Roma will forever be tainted by this infamous collapse in 2018 (3-0 and eliminated from the C1).
It’s clearly not something that plays on the minds of the Camp Nou decision-makers though, as the club have invited the Italian giants to be their opponents in the traditional curtain-raiser of the season.
Barcelona and Roma will face off on August 6, theoretically six days before Barcelona’s first league game.
Not to miss
The match will also oppose the men’s and women’s teams of the two clubs. The Barcelona Femeni will play at 5:30 p.m. CEST, while the Masculi team will kick off at 9:00 p.m. CEST. Between the two games, at 7:50 p.m., the two teams will be presented to the supporters before the start of the season as is tradition.
As Mundo Deportivo report, this will be the second time FC Barcelona have faced Roma as part of the Joan Gamper Trophy. The Blaugrana will also find themselves facing a familiar foe in Jose Mourinho. Few managers have ruffled so many feathers at Barcelona, with current manager Xavi Hernandez being at the heart of the controversy created by Mourinho when he was at Real Madrid.
