Nobody had any feelings for the reunion between Joao Felix (24) and Atlético de Madrid on Sunday. The Portuguese striker, on loan from the Madrid club to Barça, gave the Catalans victory by scoring the only goal of the match (1-0). He also celebrated it without any restraint in front of the Atlético supporters and did not contribute to calming the sometimes tense climate on the pitch.

This was particularly the case in an action between Joao Felix and defender José Maria Gimenez, who was still his partner last summer. After a foul at the entrance to the area, the Uruguayan leaned towards the Portuguese and asked him: “do you want to fight?”, according to images captured by Movistar+. Joao Felix then repeated to him: “you hit me, you hit me”. “Yes, do you want to fight or what?” Gimenez insisted before being pulled away by his captain Koke.
The latter then calmed him down by inviting him not to enter into the game of the former Benfica player. “Here, calm down. Don’t you see? He’s looking for you to get a second yellow card”, reminding Gimenez that he had already received one in the 30th minute of play.
At the end of the meeting, Joao Felix assured that he had no problem with his former teammates whom he might reunite with this summer, at the end of his loan to Barça. “I have nothing once morest them,” he explained. “I like them a lot and I hope they do very well… except once morest us.”
Joao Felix left Atlético under conflicting conditions last summer. Loaned to Chelsea in January 2023, he confided that he did not really want to return to the club the following summer (while criticizing the style of play of coach Diego Simeone). Yet this was the case. He then provoked the anger of his leaders by proclaiming his love of Barça while his contract with Atlético had been extended a few months earlier until 2027. Joao Felix, recruited for 127 million euros in 2019, was finally loaned to Barça at the end of the transfer window.
