Since his return to the New York Mets’ big team in early July, Venezuelan pitcher José Buttó has shown very good performance as a reliever in Major League Baseball.

After three interventions, the pitcher from Cumaná has a record of two victories and one save. His last performance was this Wednesday once morest the Washington Nationals, where he earned the save in the Metropolitan team’s 6-2 victory.

Buttó, who in Venezuela belongs to Caribes de Anzoátegui, began the campaign in the minors. In April he was promoted to the Big Show and made seven starts. He had one win and three losses, but in mid-May he was returned to Triple A.

Since being reinstated to the team managed by fellow Venezuelan Carlos Mendoza, the right-hander has accumulated five innings of work. He has allowed only one hit, walked two, struck out three and has not scored any runs.

It is worth noting that Buttó has been involved in three of the last five victories of the New Yorkers, which shows how positive his inclusion in the relief corps has been.

The Mets are now 46-45. They are in third place in the NL East, 13.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies.
