Jose Altuve broke his home run drought last night against the Boston Red Sox in the Houston Astros’ 8-4 win at the legendary Fenway Park. Altuve sent a home run over the “green monster” in the top of the seventh inning with a man on base.
“Astroboy” had not hit a home run since July 12 against the Texas Rangers. This was his 15th home run of the season and his first of August. Altuve went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
CONTRERAS PUNISHED KANSAS CITY
For his part, Willson Contreras also hit a home run in his St. Louis Cardinals’ victory over the Kansas City Royals by a score of 6 runs to 5.
Contreras hit his 14th homer of the season in the first inning of the game. It was his first homer of the month. He finished the night 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
BRAYAN ROCCHIO SENT HER TO FLY
On the other hand, Venezuelan Brayan Roccio hit a home run yesterday in his team’s 4-2 defeat over the Minnesota Twins.
The shortstop hit the ball that gave Cleveland its only runs in the game. In the seventh inning, the Caracas native sent the ball into the stands with Andrés Giménez on board, to close the gap on the scoreboard to 3-2.
However, Kyle Farmer extended Minnesota’s lead with a sacrifice fly in the same inning.
After this game, Roccio left his average at .209 with five homers and 24 RBIs. In addition, he is batting .279 in the last seven games. In this same duel, Andrés Giménez went 1-for-3 with one run scored and Pedro Ávila had relief work for one scoreless inning.
ORIOLES ARE DIVISION LEADERS
Zach Eflin pitched seven scoreless innings against his former team and the Baltimore Orioles moved into sole possession of first place in the American League East with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Eflin (8-7) allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven for his third straight victory since Baltimore acquired the right-hander on July 26 from Tampa Bay.
