Jorge Soler agrees for three years with Marlins

The Marlins have agreed to a three-year deal with Cuban outfielder and World Series MVP Jorge Soler, sources told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand on Saturday. The club has not confirmed.

The deal would be valued at $36 million, including options to opt out following the 2022 and 2023 seasons, according to Feinsand.

The last campaigns have been ups and downs for Soler. In 2019, he appeared in all 162 games with the Royals, posting a .922 OPS and leading the American League with 48 home runs. The Cuban mightn’t keep up that pace in the shortened 2020 season and then started slow in 2021. When he was acquired by the Braves, at the trade deadline, the slugger was hitting .192 with a .658 OPS.

In 55 games with Atlanta in the regular season, he hit .269/.358/.524 with 14 homers and 33 RBIs. Then he hit the postseason, when he received World Series MVP recognition following hitting three homers in 20 at-bats once morest the Astros.
