George Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly elected in 2020threatened Juan Carlos Escotet on Thursday, president of the board of directors of the Banesco Group and the Spanish company Abanca, for allegedly bribing Venezuelan judges. The official, who did not speak of a specific case or explain how the crime would have been committed, accused the businessman of “stealing” money from Venezuelans.
“There are thieving bankers, like a certain Escotet, who is still trying, after the money was stolen from Venezuelans to set up banks in Galicia and Panama, to buy judges. I am going for you, Escotet, because I know what you are doing against Venezuelan judges”Rodríguez expressed during the parliamentary session.
“Thief, thief not only for bankerthief for thief. Because he stole the reals from the Venezuelans, because he violated the trust that the legal system established. It cannot continue to happen”, added the deputy, who did not show evidence of the alleged irregularities that the president of Banesco would have committed.
The threat and the accusation were made by Rodríguez shortly before the Chavista Parliament established political responsibility and criminal, administrative and civil actions against Raziel Rodríguez, mayor of the Zamora municipality in the state of Miranda, for an alleged illegal eviction of people who had invaded a piece of land.
“Why did that judge do what she did? Why did he declare them invaders if they had an agrarian charter? Follow the trail of money. Why did that prosecutor do what she did and then try to wrinkle? Track the money”, expressed Rodriguez.
In the case in which the mayor is accused, a lawyer, a prosecutor from the Public Ministry, officials from the Zamora Municipality Mayor’s Office and a person related to the Guatire Textil company are also accused. The deputies elected in 2020 determined that these people violated the rights of those evicted.
