At the end of April, Jorge Rial was on vacation in Colombia when he suffered a heart attack that almost cost him his life. The driver from Argenzuela was dead for ten minutes as demonstrated by the studies carried out at the Parque Clinic, the institution in the city of Bogotá where he was treated. Two weeks later, Rial was transferred on a medical plane to Argentina, where he continued his recovery at the Finochietto Sanatorium until he was discharged and little by little he resumed his normal pace of life.

Four months following that episode, Jorge returned to coffee-growing land and had a gesture of gratitude with the team that assisted him in those critical hours. “I present to you all my Colombian guardian angels. They all saved my life. Not only for being excellent professionals but for being beautiful people,” he anticipated in a video on his Instagram account, in which images of the hospital staff were paraded.

“From Milena to the last nurse who bathed me, took care of me, brought me medications or simply smiled at me,” added the creator of Intruders in the text that accompanies the audiovisual. With David Bowie’s classic “Heroes” in the background, Jorge highlighted some names within the medical team to which he owes his life. “Omar, the man who did not hesitate to be on top of me with just his hands and his will to snatch me from death. Dr. Carolina Guarin, head of the ICU, who still insists on calling me Jorgito. And she is grateful. And Dr. Castañeda, who also insisted on keeping me alive. His voice was the first one I heard when I woke up,” he listed.

In addition to posing smiling at the door of the sanatorium, Jorge closed the message with some words of gratitude. “It was a joy to see them once more and hug them. Forever grateful. Part of my life today belongs to Colombia. And I was able to walk from the Country Clinic. It was a pending account. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you,” the presenter closed.

In his public reappearance from the microphones of Argenzuela (Radio 10), Jorge recounted in first person the dramatic days in Bogotá: “What we all went through 20 days ago in Colombia was very distressing. Where I was and where the situation affected me that I am still trying to rebuild. An extreme situation that no one thought would happen to me and that happened to me,” said the driver with the memory still hot.

“My head broke into a thousand pieces because no one is prepared to die. That’s literally what happened to me: the medical record says ‘sudden death’. They spent more or less 10 minutes trying to revive me, they gave me three electric shocks and they literally beat me to death,” she detailed regarding the most dramatic moments she experienced at the Country Clinic in Bogotá.

“Omar is the name of the nurse who climbed on top of me and refused to let me go. I still don’t accept it. I tell it and it seems like I’m touching someone else’s story, but it’s mine. It was really terrible and I was very lucky,” added Rial, mentioning the man with whom he met once more in the last hours. And he also referred to the moment when they were unable to revive him. ”Death is not painful, it is a warm place. The pain is what you leave behind but I want to tell everyone that it is a glorious moment, it is warm, it is beautiful, it attracts you, it takes you away. I heard my grandson’s voice telling me ‘come on tata, come on’. I listened to it and I became desperate,” he said.
