Prima Pramac Racing rider Jorge Martin broke the lap record to take pole position at the Austrian GP in the qualifying session at the Red Bull Ring Circuit, Saturday (17/8).
Martin recorded a best time of 1 minute 27.748 seconds. This time record shifted the record of defending champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo), who the day before set a new lap record at the Red Bull Ring Circuit with a time of 1 minute 28.508 seconds.
What is interesting in the upcoming race is the front grid which is filled by three potential champions this season, namely Martin, Bagnaia, and eight-time world champion Marc Marquez.
Bagnaia and Marquez were 0.141 seconds and 0.544 seconds respectively behind Martin, who led the race and is top of the standings this season.
The tight battle between the three Ducati riders was rivaled by Aprilia Racing rider Aleix Espargaro, who was only 0.052 seconds behind Marquez.
Next, in the top five is Jack Miller from Red Bull KTM with a best time of 1 minute 28.546 seconds.
The other five riders in the top ten were Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing), Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo), Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing), Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46), and Red Bull KTM wildcard Pol Espargaro.
The main Austrian GP race will be held today, Sunday (18/8) at 19.00 WIB. (Ant/Z-1)
