The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri, ordered this Tuesday the removal of the leadership of the City Police and appointed the former interim mayor of Lanús and recently appointed Secretary of Security as provisional head of the security force, Diego Kravetz.

Provisionally and by decision of the Minister of Justice and Security Waldo Wolff, Diego Kravetz will assume command of the force and will be accompanied by Commissioner General Oscar Antonio Passi. Both will replace commissioners Gabriel Berard and Pedro Carnero, respectively.

According to the agency Telamthe removal, in addition to reaching the current chief to the deputy chief of the City Police, restructures the functions of the Superintendencies of the Buenos Aires force from a reduction to have more troops on the streets; while also lowers the autonomous directorates of the senior staff.

Kravetz welcomed the appointment and said he was “happy and excited because it is an exceptional police force” although he anticipated that he will try to get the security force to acquire a “more operational” role that tends to do more prevention on the street.

According to the new head of the Buenos Aires Government, the changes respond to the intention of giving the Police “a new imprint and a new stage” and reiterated his vision regarding social protests, regarding “There should not be children in the marches” because “the right to demonstrate belongs to adults.”

“There is no reason that justifies children being in a march or a camp, in a risky situation,” he considered and maintained that they will maintain the position adopted during the electoral campaign aimed at initiate “demands to social groups that mobilize with children”.

Finally, he stressed that he will also seek to “work with the national government to put aside the logic of arrogance in the use of public space and the imposition of the rights of some by the rights of others.”
