Likewise, Carlos Edwin Angulo Lara, alias ‘Invisible’, from the terrorist organization ‘Los Lobos’ and linked to the crime of Fernando Villavicencio.
Diplomatic crisis
The entry of the Ecuadorian authorities into the Mexican Embassy and the subsequent arrest of Glas led to a moment of maximum tension in relations between both countries, following the Government had expelled the Mexican ambassador for statements by Andrés Manuel López Obrador, regarding the murder of candidate Fernando Villavicencio and the effect on the elections won by the young businessman, 36 years old.
Just yesterday, the Mexican Government granted Glas the political asylum he had requested but the current Government did not grant him safe passage to travel.
Glas was under a preventive detention order for a case of alleged corruption in which he is currently being prosecuted, following having spent nearly five years in prison between 2017 and 2022 for two current convictions for crimes that he rejects considering that he is a victim of a political persecution once morest him.
