Amman – Jordanian King Abdullah II discussed, on Tuesday, with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Western officials, stopping the escalation in the region, amid anticipation of an Iranian response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week.
This came during phone calls by the Jordanian monarch, which included, in addition to Sisi, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, according to two statements from the Royal Court.
In his call with Sisi, the two sides stressed the “need to make every effort to reduce tensions in the region and reach a comprehensive calm.”
The two parties reiterated the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and ending the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip.
The King of Jordan and the President of Egypt pointed to “the necessity of finding a political horizon to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli), which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
King Abdullah also discussed with Macron, Meloni and Trudeau “international efforts to stop the escalation in the region.”
The King of Jordan warned of “the danger of the expansion of the circle of conflict in the region, which requires intensifying efforts to stop everything that threatens the security and stability of the region.”
The importance of pushing for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, protecting civilians, and preventing the worsening of the humanitarian catastrophe was emphasized.
