Al-Safadi added, during a press conference yesterday, Wednesday, held on the sidelines of a meeting of an Arab-Islamic committee on stopping the war on Gaza, in Amman, that the meeting stressed the necessity of stopping the aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the priority of stopping the escalation in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Al-Safadi pointed out that “we do not believe that canceling the peace agreement will serve Jordan and Palestine, and we are using the peace agreement to protect Jordan’s interests and serve the Palestinian people.”
He pointed out that Israel is pushing the entire region towards the abyss, adding that the Israeli escalation is ongoing and dangerous.
Al-Safadi explained that the meeting came within the framework of a consultative coordination meeting between countries prior to the UN General Assembly meetings, to coordinate the Arab position that seeks a large international mobilization to support the Palestinian cause, adding that “our main goal is to stop the aggression on Gaza, and stop the slide towards a regional war.”
Safadi continued: “We will go to the General Assembly with a number of clear positions and demands and we will hold a number of meetings there. As I said, the first priority is to stop the aggression on Gaza, stop the escalation in the West Bank and stop the escalation against Lebanon as well, and clarify the danger of continuing to allow this Israeli government, the most extremist even in Israel’s history, to push the region towards the abyss.”
He pointed out that there are countries that have recognized the State of Palestine and there will be a meeting on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings to push for recognition of the State of Palestine and for it to be a full member of the United Nations.
Safadi added: “Our message to the world is that they are allowing an extremist Israeli government to violate international and humanitarian law, violate the rights of the Palestinian people, and desecrate their sanctities, thus pushing the entire region towards the abyss. It is time for the world to take practical steps to prove that there is a price to pay for the continuation of these Israeli policies and measures, which disregard all human values, defy the decisions of the International Court of Justice, and do not fulfill its duties as an occupying power.”
