Jordan Walks a Delicate Diplomatic Tightrope: A Commitment to Neutrality Amidst Regional Power Struggles

Al-Safadi added during a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ati in Cairo, “Jordan will not be a battlefield for anyone, neither Iran nor Israel,” indicating that Tel Aviv and Tehran have been informed of this directly and through partners.

He continued: “Our priority is Jordan and its protection, and there is no talk before or after this priority, and this is Jordan’s position.”

He pointed out that Israel’s aggressive practices were what brought out the Palestinian and Lebanese faction movement, as a result of the continued occupation and the impediment of prospects for a political solution, saying: “The Lebanese faction movement was born and crystallized from the destruction of the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, and the Palestinian faction movement did not create the conflict, rather the conflict created it.”

He continued: “The Palestinian faction movement was launched as a result of Israel’s continued occupation of the West Bank and the absence of any prospects for a solution that meets the rights of the Palestinian people, and what is happening now will be repeated if the roots of the crisis are not resolved.”

He stated, “War and violence will not achieve a solution, and Israel has killed more than 41,000 Palestinians in Gaza, more than 2,000 Lebanese, and about a thousand Palestinians in the West Bank since October 7, and this will not achieve security.”

The Jordanian minister said that Israel is now facing a strategic defeat, and its position in the world can now be viewed in terms of Security Council resolutions, General Assembly resolutions, the International Court of Justice, and the positions of many countries that have taken sanctions against figures in Israel and stopped arms exports, adding that this change demonstrates the reality of what Israel is doing and its danger.

He added that Israel is the one pushing the region into the abyss, and what allows it to do so is the failure of the international community with regard to its obligation to comply with international law, noting that “the whole world is now aware of the step of allowing Israel in its positions, but there is no real international action capable of stopping Israel’s aggression.”

He continued: “The whole world knows, even if some countries do not say so publicly due to political considerations, what prevents the achievement of security and stability in the region are the aggressive policies and wars carried out by Israel.”

He pointed out Jordan’s commitment to supporting Palestine and the victory of the Palestinian people, achieving just peace, and participating with Egypt in efforts to stop the Israeli aggression.
