Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi has urged the UN Security Council to take immediate and effective action to stop Israel from violating holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Safadi stressed that Israel’s plan to change the identity of the Mosque is driven by an ideology driven by hatred and urged the international community to respond before it is too late.

“The situation is explosive,” Safadi told X, as reported by Al Jazeera, Wednesday (28/8).

As Al Jazeera previously reported, the Palestinian Authority and Hamas slammed the Israeli government for allocating funds for right-wing minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. Gaza’s Civil Defence Agency said Israeli tank fire prevented its crews from reaching people buried after a house was destroyed in Khan Younis.

Meanwhile, Israeli bombardment continues in Gaza and attacks in the southern and central regions have increased. At least 7 Palestinians were killed in the occupied West Bank when the Israeli military launched a large-scale military operation involving hundreds of soldiers in the cities of Jenin and Tulkarem. Around 20 people were killed in the latest Israeli attacks that mainly targeted Deir el-Balah in central Gaza and Khan Younis in the south, our correspondent in the Gaza Strip reported.

A total of 40,476 people were killed and 93,647 injured in Israel’s war on Gaza. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led offensive on October 7. (I-2)
