Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Public Security Directorate in Jordan announced, at dawn on Saturday, that the last body had been recovered from under the rubble of the collapsed building in the Al-Weibdeh area in the capital, Amman.
This came in a statement by the media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate, Amer Al-Sartawi, who said: “After difficult and continuous search and rescue operations in multiple stages that lasted for 84 hours, the search and rescue teams were able to evacuate the last death from under the rubble.”
Al-Sartawi added that the outcome of what was dealt with in the incident “14 deaths and 10 injuries, according to the survey revealed regarding those inside the residential building.”
It is reported that the Amman Public Prosecutor decided to arrest 3 people in connection with the case of the collapse of the building in a repair and rehabilitation center. They are one of the heirs of the building owner (who is his supervising son), the maintenance contractor, and the maintenance technician.
The Jordanian King, King Abdullah II, had stressed the need to provide all forms of assistance to the families affected by the collapse of the building in the Weibdeh area, and to provide the necessary health care for the injured.
The Jordan News Agency said that King Abdullah II, while chairing a meeting at the National Center for Security and Crisis Management upon his return to Jordan, continued efforts to rescue the trapped, expressing his condolences to the families of the victims in this tragic accident, and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
