There is not one, but two winners on this ultra trail which has 103 kilometers of circuit and 5500 meters of elevation gain. It was side by side that Ludovic Pommeret and Jordan Mionze crossed the finish line at 12:23 a.m. on Sunday May 7, 2023, a time of 14 hours 23 minutes and 45 seconds.
On the finish line, it is past midnight when the headlamps approach. Side by side, arm over shoulder, Jordan Mionze and Ludovic Pommeret won this tchimbé raid together.
The two men who have done almost the entire race together fall into each other’s arms before lying on the ground as they have given everything. They both covered the 103 kilometers of the ultra trail in 14h23’45”.
I picked up my breed well. I struggled throughout the start of the race and it was hell with the heat. I suffered more than at Reunion. Jordan came by, I hitched the wagon, we finished together. We did most of the race together. I hope that we will be well classified ex aequo and not a front. Sometimes we give the award to the old, but the young was super deserving.
His co-winner signs his third consecutive victory on the ultra trail following 2022 and 2019.
Ludo is very humble, because once he was shooting me, then I was the one who was shooting him. We really gave it our all for 80 to 85 kilometres. I thank him for this huge share. He’s a great champion, I knew that, but then I saw his state of mind and it was great. First or second, I don’t care, it’s an adventure with Ludo and we cross the line together. It was really just happiness, a lesson in humility, a lot of learning, I come out stronger from this tchimbé raid 2023.
The following are several hours apart from the winners. According to forecasts, the first woman should be Céline Pommeret, the wife of Ludovic Pommeret.
The 107 athletes registered for the ultra trail started at the P. Pierre-Charles stadium a few hours earlier, at 10 a.m.
We are trying to make improvements, especially with tracking, beacons for athletes who will have to cross our beautiful rainforest at night. We are also trying to innovate at the chip level. There’s no more footwork like there used to be, but another system that works elsewhere and should work here as well. We emphasize the supplies, we try to please.
Frédérique Vieuvel-Orribé, president of the Tchimbé Raid club, interviewed by Denis Adenet-Louvet
