Jordan: Israel bears responsibility for “dangerous escalation” in the region

Jordan – Jordan held Israel responsible for the “dangerous escalation” in the region on Tuesday, calling on the international community to take “deterrent steps to curb its aggression.”

This came during phone calls made by the Kingdom’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi yesterday, Tuesday, with Arab and Western officials, according to a statement by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

Safadi’s contacts included Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Aati, American Anthony Blinken, Russian Sergey Lavrov, Chinese Wang Yi, Italian Antonio Tiani, and Dutch Casper Veldkamp.

He also contacted his Belgian counterpart Hadja Lahbib, Irish counterpart Mihael Martin, Cypriot counterpart Konstantinos Kompos, Swedish counterpart Tobias Billström, and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

The statement said that Safadi stressed that “Israel bears full responsibility for the dangerous escalation witnessed in the region, and the necessity for the international community to take deterrent steps to curb its aggression and protect the region from its government’s escalatory agenda.”

He also pointed out that Israel is “pushing the entire region into the abyss of a regional war by continuing its aggression against Gaza, violating international law, and attacking the sovereignty of states.”

He said, “The dangerous escalation will not stop unless the international community forces Israel to stop its aggression on Gaza and abide by international law.”

Safadi warned that “Israeli Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) wants to drag the region towards a comprehensive escalation on multiple fronts, driven by blatant revenge and extremist ideology.”

He explained that “without effective international action to curb this aggression, the Israeli Prime Minister will impose more wars and conflicts on the entire region.”
