Jordan grants permits to Yemenia Airlines to resume flights between the two countries

The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority, Captain Haitham Misto, spoke to Al-Mamlaka Channel about arrangements for the return of flights from Sana’a to Amman starting today, Thursday, explaining that “permits have been granted to Yemenia Airlines to return flights from Sana’a to Amman starting from the 25th of this month.”

Flights between the two cities have been suspended since June 19, and the average number of flights per week was about 6 flights at the time, according to Mostou.

But he expects “the number of flights to double,” saying, “We expect a double number of flights at a rate of about 3 flights per day until the demand for travel from Sana’a to Amman is covered,” noting that many travelers are still waiting for flights to resume.

Yemenia Airlines was granted “the right to operate flights,” according to Mosto, who said that the company “requested to operate a large number of flights after the suspension period.”

He explained that “the return will be with high momentum, we expect it to be at least two to three flights per day until demand decreases to its normal limits,” based on “information from Yemenia Airlines.”

He added, “The demand for flights will continue at a high momentum for at least a month.”

He pointed out that “the purposes of travelers coming from Sana’a to Amman are multiple, including coming for treatment or moving to other cities via Queen Alia International Airport.”

On Wednesday, Jordan welcomed the announcement by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, of reaching an agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis to reduce escalation in the banking sector and the operation of Yemenia Airlines.

Last Tuesday, Grundberg announced that the Yemeni government and the Houthis had agreed on measures to stop the escalation in the above.

A statement issued by the Office of the Special Envoy to Yemen said, “On July 22, the Yemeni government and the Ansar Allah movement informed the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, that they had agreed on several measures to de-escalate the situation regarding the banking sector and Yemenia Airlines, according to a written text received by the UN envoy from both parties, which includes four points.

Grundberg pointed to “the important role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in reaching this agreement.”
