Jordan denies allowing ‘any party’ to use its airspace

Amman – Jordan denied, on Friday, that it would allow the use of its airspace for the benefit of any party under any circumstances, and that it would not allow a military response by any of the currently conflicting parties.

This came according to what was reported by the official Jordanian “Al-Mamlaka” TV website, citing a source described as “official” without naming him, in response to the claim of an Arab news website that “Jordan allowed Israel to use its airspace to repel the expected Iranian attack.”

The source stressed that “Jordanian airspace will not be allowed to be used under any circumstances and for the benefit of any party, and that a military response will not be allowed for any of the currently conflicting parties.”

He stated that “the armed forces will not allow Jordan’s lands and airspace to be a stage for any party.”

He stated that “what was reported in a news item on a website broadcast from abroad is pure rumour and full of lies, and comes in the context of a fabricated text from the imagination of its author.”

The source said, “Routine activities of Royal Air Force fighter and helicopter aircraft, and even air transport aircraft, have been seen during the past few days, and this is normal in light of the military escalation in the region.”

He added, “Some limited pages on social media platforms in Jordan questioned the veracity of what was stated on the website and its publication of allegations claiming that Israel was allowed to use Jordanian airspace.”

He added: “Therefore, we confirm that no military response is permitted for any of the currently conflicting parties.”

The source considered that “the jamming from the site is a deliberate abuse and comes at a time when Jordan is making a major diplomatic effort to prevent escalation in the region.”

He indicated that “the site will be considered for legal consideration,” without naming it.

In the attack launched by Iran on Israel last April, some missiles and drones crossed over Jordanian airspace, while the kingdom’s defenses shot down some of them for “violating the country’s sovereignty.”
