AMMAN — Jordan has achieved a remarkable leap in the global mobile download speed rankings, now occupying the 84th position worldwide, with an impressive average speed of 29.4 Mbps, showcasing the country’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure.

The Kingdom has also made significant strides in fixed internet services, advancing two positions to now stand at 31st place internationally, boasting an average download speed of 155 Mbps. This advancement comes as a result of dedicated efforts in developing the digital landscape, according to the latest rankings released by Ookla, a reputable authority in monitoring the evolution of broadband and mobile internet speeds on a global scale.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) stated in a detailed announcement to The Jordan Times that these improvements can be largely attributed to Jordan’s robust regulatory framework, which actively promotes competition and attracts investment. They emphasized the vital role of public-private partnerships in furthering the ambitions outlined in the Economic Modernisation Vision of the nation.

The TRC is optimistic that the country’s ranking will continue to ascend, especially as subscriptions for fibre internet show a steady increase, a trend that has been significantly stimulated by the introduction of 5G services along with the issuance of essential licenses to telecommunications providers.

Bayan Khaled, a knowledgeable computer and automation engineer, commented on the advancements, stating that “the improvement reflects enhanced regulatory frameworks and increased investments in fibre infrastructure.” Khaled further stressed the importance of these developments, highlighting that they could attract additional investment in the burgeoning local digital market. However, she cautioned that sustaining this momentum will demand focused cooperation and continuous efforts from all stakeholders.

Razan Hourani, a seasoned telecommunications specialist, echoed these sentiments, noting that the planned expansion of 5G services throughout the country represents a significant step towards better connectivity. “We are witnessing a surge in tech-focused investments in Jordan, which lays a strong foundation for digital innovation,” she remarked, underlining the optimism surrounding the growth of the nation’s technological landscape.
