Jordan calls for deterrent measures against Netanyahu and his agenda

Amman – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi called on the international community and the Security Council on Sunday to take deterrent measures against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his agenda, considering that he “wants to push the region towards a regional war.”

This came in a post on his account on the “X” platform, in which he wrote: “A dangerous escalation will erupt in the region… more comprehensive and more destructive confrontations, unless its cause is stopped.”

Al-Safadi added, “The brutal Israeli aggression on Gaza is pushing the region towards the abyss of a regional war, and stopping this aggression immediately will defuse the escalating crisis.”

He pointed out that “Netanyahu is obstructing the exchange deal with the Palestinian factions and wants to push the region towards a regional war, to save his political future, and to implement his racist ideology that is manifested in killing, destruction and war crimes in Gaza, and incessant violations of international law and international humanitarian law, and aggressive crimes in the occupied West Bank and the region.”

He called on the international community to “impose a halt to the aggression on Gaza by activating the role of the Security Council in protecting peace and security, and imposing sanctions on Israel.”

Regarding the escalation on Lebanon’s southern border with Israel, Safadi said: “We stand with Lebanon, its security and sovereignty, and we stress the need to adhere to Security Council Resolution 1701.”

On August 11, 2006, the UN Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1701, calling for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.

The resolution called for the creation of an area between the Blue Line (the border between Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River in southern Lebanon, free of any armed men, military equipment, or weapons, except those belonging to the Lebanese Armed Forces and the UNIFIL forces.

Al-Safadi expressed the Kingdom’s support for “the negotiations led by Egypt, Qatar and the United States to reach a swap deal that leads to a permanent ceasefire and ends the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.”

He also called on “the international community and the Security Council to explicitly declare the fact that Netanyahu is obstructing the conclusion of the deal, and to take effective deterrent measures against him and his escalating racist agenda, and against his ministers who defy the world, its laws, and all its human values.”

The Jordanian minister’s post comes after Israeli warplanes launched more than 40 raids on dozens of villages and towns in southern Lebanon at dawn on Sunday, in the largest attack since the start of the confrontations on October 8, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese factions announced the launch of 340 missiles towards Israeli military sites and the launch of an attack with a large number of drones towards the depths of Israel, as part of the first phase of the response to the assassination of the party leader Fouad Shukr in Beirut on July 30.

To demand an end to the war on Gaza, Lebanese and Palestinian factions in Lebanon have been exchanging daily shelling with the Israeli army since October 8 across the “Blue Line” separating the two sides, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries, most of them on the Lebanese side.
