Former Apple head of design, Jony Ivereceived this week the most respected recognition of the Edison Awardsan annual competition for excellence in innovation, during a ceremony in Florida (United States).
The award was presented by Wendell Weeksexecutive director of Corning (the manufacturer of glasses used by Apple). Speaking regarding Ive, he said the former Apple executive is “trying to make our lives a little better”.
Upon receiving the honor, Ive thanked Weeks and the Edison Awards Steering Committee: “Wendell lives and understands the creative process. In the midst of an unpredictable, often confusing and painful journey, he reminded me countless times why we do this.”
Our motivation indicates our values, describes who we are. Our motivation is also our fuel. Our determination, our resolve, and our focus are fueled by what motivates us. I can’t think of a more powerful motivation than wanting to serve and support humanity. The truth is, if I was doing it just for myself, I would be doing it badly or not doing it at all.
Ive also talked regarding Steve Jobsmore specifically to an email that the former CEOChief executive officeror executive director.”>1 sent him, who says, “I love and admire my kind, living and dead, and am wholly dependent on them for my life and well-being.” The quote is part of the work “Make Something Wonderful — Steve Jobs in his own words”.
Every time I read this email, its truth and humility slows down time, silences some of the noise and puts my trivialities in their place. Instead of looking down at my feet, it helps me hold my head up by remembering my true motivation and leaves me just grateful.
After spending almost 30 years at Apple and participating in the creation of several products, Ive left the company in 2019 to open his own agency, LoveFrom. Even from a distance, he continued to provide consultancy for Maçã until last year, when they broke ties for good.
