The individual start was won by Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen, ahead of the country’s Johanna Matintalo.
A snowstorm made the competition a challenge for the riders.
But one who had no major worries was Jonna Sundling.
– I’m in perfectly good shape and can work hard out there. Conditions are not very easy today. Difficult to find the right way with skis and the tracks are a bit half-baked. In between it suits me, says Sundling in Viaplay.
Afterwards, she was satisfied with the effort and to take third place on home soil.
– It feels great. Nice to be able to do it on distance races, especially here at home in Falun. I’m glad the material was good and the body responded too. Most things actually worked, says Sundling.
Loses in the fight for overall victory
The ten-kilometer race was a disappointment for top-seeded Linn Svahn and Frida Karlsson, second and third in the overall World Cup. The duo was far from close combat. Svahn finished in 18th place while Karlsson drove in as 14th fastest rider.
– There is something not right, says commentator Per Forsberg in Viaplay.
The bus weather caused problems for many of the riders.
– I didn’t even see the tracks out there for a while, so maybe not the best. It will be difficult to maintain good technique and try to keep up the courage, says Maja Dahlqvist, who finished 42nd.
The World Cup will finish this weekend in Falun.
In the fight for overall victory, second-placed Linn Svahn is losing ground behind Jessie Diggins following finishing 13 places behind the American.
– It was really, really tough out there. But I’m very proud to have given my all, says Diggins in Viaplay.
Before the start, only 41 points separated Diggins and Svahn. That lead has now been extended.
– I think she (Diggins) has decided this now, says the expert Johan Olsson in Viaplay.
The World Cup season ends with a mass start on Sunday.
