The agreement will bring $ 84 million to the native of Saint-Jérôme, or 10.5 million per year, confirmed the Alberta organization.
“He’s an elite player, one of the best forwards in the league to make those around him even better,” Treliving said in a statement. We look forward to welcoming Jonathan to our community and seeing his contribution to the success of the team.”
Traded at the end of July, along with defender MacKenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt and a first-round draft pick, in return for Matthew Tkachuk, the Quebecer quickly indicated that he would be ready to sign an agreement with the Alberta team.
“I’m excited to be part of the Calgary Flames organization for the long term,” Huberdeau said. I’m excited for this new chapter and I’m committed to this team. I’ll give it my all, both on and off the ice, and I can’t wait to play in front of these passionate fans.”
Aged 29, Huberdeau will play a first season in a uniform other than that of the Panthers, who had set their sights on him with the third round of the 2011 draft. He also had his best career season in 2021 -2022, blacking the score sheet 115 times in 80 contests, which had earned him the second rank of the best scorers in the National League, tied with Johnny Gaudreau, formerly with the Flames, and behind only Connor McDavid.
