It was an elementary school teacher who convinced Jonathan Houde to go on stage the very first time. Since then, the young man has dreamed of a career in the spotlight.

Drawing on his experience within Boy Band Story, which pays homage to the Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block and NSYNC, he arrives at The voice with the ambition to break through as a pop singer.

It is certainly a prosperous period for the 23-year-old, originally from Thetford Mines, who is not at his first attempts to take part in the competition. He was 15 the first time he tried his luck, but he knows today that he “wasn’t ready” like he is now.

In addition to taking part in The voicehe and his partner have a 10-month-old baby – who was six months old at the start of the recordings – and they are in the process of building their first house in the Victoriaville region, in Center-du-Québec, where Jonathan is assistant to the ticket office at the Le Carré 150 performance hall.

The four coaches were charmed by his interpretation of the piece When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars, Sunday, opening the 10th season. In a twist, while he seemed to be leaning towards Corneille, Roxane Bruneau blocked the latter, and Jonathan chose to go to his team. “Y’é mine!” she shouted.

“We have the same energy, a little hyperactive, so we have fun,” said Jonathan, who has quite a voice, with which he plays with finesse, and who has a lot of ease on stage.

He says one of his greatest strengths is “reaching out to people in their emotions.” He concluded his performance by wiping away tears because he was moved to see that the four coaches wanted him in their stable.
