Indonesian men’s singles badminton player Jonatan Christie managed to win the All England 2024. He beat his compatriot and fifth seed, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, in the top match which took place on Sunday (17/3).
Jonathan, who is the unseeded, won with a score of 21-15 and 21-14. This victory was the end of Indonesia’s wait, which had been fasting for a title in the men’s singles sector for 30 years.
The match between Jonathan and Anthony is the third match at the All England this year. Previously there had been women’s singles and women’s doubles finals.
For women’s doubles, the gold medal was won by the South Korean pair Baek Ha-na/Lee So-hee who beat Japanese representatives Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida with a score of 21-19, 11-21 and 21-17.
Then the women’s singles final was won by Carlona Marin from Spain. She won 26-24 and 11-1 over Japanese player Akane Yamaguchi who retired in the second game.
Indonesia has the opportunity to get a second gold medal because it has Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto playing in the men’s doubles number. They will face a pair from Malaysia, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik. (Z-6)
