– This time I will get to know the players. In the men’s national team, but also those in the U21 national team. I will also carefully watch their matches to see which ones may be relevant in the future, says Jon Dahl Tomasson.

The men’s national team’s new national captain Jon Dahl Tomasson has started his mission and sees the spring friendlies once morest Portugal and Albania in March and Denmark and Serbia in June as a preparation phase for the autumn when the competition matches in the UEFA Nations League await and following that phase three with World Cup qualifiers.
During Tuesday, he presented his first squad and in it there were several established A national team players, but also four new names.
Jon Dahl Tomasson has called Gustaf Nilsson, who played two A-national matches during the January tour 2018, Jacob Ondrejka with 1 A-national match during the January tour 2023, Anton Salétros with 2 A-national matches during the January camps in 2020 and 2024 and Simon Olsson, who was selected for the January tour 2022, which was however cancelled. The Heerenveen midfielder has not played any senior internationals or U21 internationals before.
– We have some players who have not been in the squad before, some new, but as far as the majority of the young players are concerned, they will now play in the U21s, points out Jon Dahl Tomasson and continues:
– The spring gatherings are a chance for the players who are around the men’s national team, but also the U21 national team, to catch my attention. Everyone should get an honest chance to show themselves. We will implement the way I want us to play, but also get used to each other. The upcoming collections will give me some answers.
It has been a busy period for Jon Dahl Tomasson who started his assignment on March 1 and on Monday he will meet all the players and managers in Portugal.
– It has of course been intense since I started. I have spoken to players and also met some of them. It is very satisfying to get started, the players are very nice and the feedback I get from them gives me a lot of energy, he says.
After the away meeting with Portugal, the men’s national team will face Albania at home on March 25. In connection with that match, Albin Ekdal will be thanked. The midfielder played his last international game once morest Estonia in November and has played a total of 70 international games and participated in three championships.
