Jollydays GmbH became bankrupt on August 17, 2024. The company specializes in experiential activities. It sells thousands of coupons for different experiences. These are redeemed by the respective experience provider upon booking on the Jollydays website. Anyone still holding Jollydays vouchers can register their claim in insolvency proceedings. The liquidator decides whether the company continues to exist.
In July, the first consumers complained that Jollydays coupons had not been redeemed. For example, scenic flights, boat trips, romantic dinners or Maserati tours did not take place because the respective providers refused to redeem the vouchers. According to consumers, the vendors did this because they had not received any money from Jollydays for months. AK Consumer Advocates wrote to Jollydays GmbH but have yet to receive a response.
What are the consequences of declaring bankruptcy?
The bankruptcy court appoints an attorney as the administrator. This person has to decide what happens next for the company. Individual creditors must not be favored or disadvantaged in bankruptcy proceedings. Therefore, individual coupons can no longer be redeemed. All information about bankruptcy proceedings is published in the bankruptcy filing.
What can a coupon holder do after bankruptcy?
The purchase contract for the coupons is concluded with Jollydays GmbH. Therefore, the corresponding experience provider is not obliged to redeem the coupon. Voucher owners have until October 10, 2024 to register their claims in insolvency proceedings. A fee of €25 must be paid for this. However, whether these costs can be covered by bankruptcy rates depends on the amount of the claim and the outcome of the bankruptcy proceedings. There is a form to register a claim judicial website.
