In La Louvière, the Jolimont hospital is installing four new operating rooms. Four prefabricated modules that are brought from today. They are just as good, but all are up and running quickly.
Twenty-nine trucks were needed to move the modules which were placed one by one. On the Jolimont site, a 25-tonne crane has been installed.
By opting for a prefabricated structure, the hospital opted for rapid assembly. “These are long preliminary studies but once all this is decided, it takes two days”explains Marie-Pierre Tourneur, architect in hospital engineering. “When all the modules are in place, the interior elements will have to be completed, but basically all the techniques are already integrated into each module.”
The cost for these four new operating rooms: six million euros. Once these are installed, the Jolimont hospital will have 12 rooms. A real necessity since the establishment’s occupancy rate is now 90%.
“An operating room is full of technical objects, so we have to maintain them and it is essential to be able to clean the rooms regularly and if there is an occupation that rises at a low rate, that prevents it from being done and we must postpone interventions because it must be done”explains Réginald Vreven, anesthetist and co-coordinator of the operating room.
A hybrid room is also planned. Something new for the hospital. “You have to see it as a high-performance radiology room and a high-performance operating room in a suitable environment”poursuit Reginal Vreven.
These new rooms will be operational from November.
