Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) released the Indonesian contingent for the 2024 Paris Olympics at the Merdeka Palace yard, Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (10/7). The contingent consists of 29 athletes.

“By saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim this followingnoon, I officially send off the Indonesian team to the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris in 2024,” said Jokowi, Wednesday.

He understands that the selection to become a member of the delegation to compete in the Olympics is very strict. They are athletes who are strictly selected, and are selected athletes. Therefore, he asked the athletes who will compete to prepare themselves.

“Prepare yourself well, prepare physically, prepare mentally, prepare yourself to compete. And we all hope that we will succeed and win and bring home medals,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi further reminded that the opponents in the Olympics are the best in the world. He also understands that the opponents are very tough to face.

The President also advised athletes to always be optimistic.

“I have a message that everyone must be optimistic, compete with full spirit. You must know what Indonesia wants, the people want the red and white flag to be raised in the Olympic arena,” said Jokowi.

Previously, the Indonesian contingent for the 2024 Paris Olympics was confirmed first at the Kemenpora Auditorium on Wednesday (10/7). A total of 29 athletes from 12 sports will represent Indonesia at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The inauguration was attended by athletes, coaches, heads of sports federations competing in the Paris Olympics, the Minister of Youth and Sports, the Head of the Indonesian Olympics, and the Chef de Mission (CDM) of the Indonesian Contingent for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This inauguration was marked by the handover of the Red and White flag from the Minister of Youth and Sports to the CDM of the Indonesian Contingent, then continued with the reading of the athlete’s pledge.

Not long following that, the athletes kissed the Red and White flag one by one accompanied by the song “Bagimu Negeri”.

“In a match, I believe victory accompanies those who never give up,” said Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo.

“We fully support the Indonesian Contingent at the 33rd Paris Olympics 2024. This is the peak step following the Asian and SEA Games. Show that Indonesia is a big country,” he said.

The XXXIII Olympiad will run from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The opening ceremony of this summer’s Olympic Games will be different, for the first time it will not take place inside a stadium.

Archery: 4 people

Rock climbing: 4 people

Artistic gymnastics: 1 person

Shooting: 1 person

Surfing waves: 1 person

Weight lifting: 3 people

Rowing: 1 person

Bicycle racing: 1 person

Badminton: 9 people

Judo: 1 person

Athletics: 1 person

Swimming: 2 people
