PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has spoken out regarding the demands of a number of parties who have asked Budi Arie Setiadi to resign from his position as Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo).
The demand arose in relation to hacking in the form of ransomware at the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2 in Surabaya since Wednesday (17/6), which resulted in the servers of a number of institutions and ministries being paralyzed.
“Everything has been evaluated,” said President Jokowi following inaugurating the South Korean battery and electric vehicle ecosystem in Karawang, West Java, Wednesday (3/7).
The demand for Budi Arie Setiadi to resign from his position as Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia was voiced by the Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (Safenet) by raising a petition via the change.org page which was opened on June 26, 2024.
Until today, the petition titled “PDNS Kena” Ransomware“Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi Must Resign!” has been signed by 22,177 netizens.
PDNS 2 in Surabaya experienced a cyber attack in the form of ransomware called Brain Cipher, the latest variant of Lockbit 3.0. At its peak, PDNS began to be inaccessible since Thursday (20/6) which resulted in public services being inaccessible, including immigration services.

Safenet said that there were at least 282 government agencies using PDNS that were affected by the cyber attack.
The government is targeting the recovery from the PDNS 2 cyber attack in Surabaya to be completed this month.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also emphasized the importance of national data backup to anticipate similar incidents from happening once more in the future.
“All our national data is backed up, so if something happens, we won’t be surprised,” he said. (Ant/P-5)
