As reported, the government asked for Freeport’s commitment to complete the smelter in the JIIPE Java Industrial Zone, Manyar District, Gresik Regency, East Java. The project is promised to be completed in May 2024 and officially operational in June 2024. In other words, if it is completed on time, relaxation for PT. Freeport Indonesia can be extended.

Separately, President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PT FI) Tony Wenas explained the urgency of extending the export. Tony said the country might potentially lose up to US$2 billion in revenue if exports of copper concentrate were stopped, from June to December 2024.
“Yes, if we can’t export, state revenues will also decrease by around US$2 billion at current prices,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (28/3).
