PRESIDENT Jokowi emphasized the importance of cooperation in digital transformation, which was his focus during the ASEAN-Australia Summit.

“What the President conveyed in the first session was digital transformation cooperation. The President said that ASEAN’s digital economic potential was very strong. Last year, negotiations on the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) began,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi who accompanied Jokowi to attend ASEAN-Australia Summit, Melbourne, Australia, Wednesday (6/3).

“Indonesia also hopes that Australia can support ASEAN’s digital transformation efforts through skills development, knowledge sharing and strong public and private partnerships,” he said

Apart from digital transformation, geopolitical issues were also discussed. Jokowi in his national statement emphasized the importance of ASEAN and Australia continuing to respect international law and that no country should be above the law.

“The President emphasized three things. First, rules based orders must continue to be enforced without double standards. Second, the spirit and paradigm of collaboration must continue to be strengthened so that there is no trust deficit,” he explained.

With this issue, he said, President Jokowi encourages inclusive cooperation which is very important to create strategic trust. Jokowi also hopes that Australia can become a bridge for ASEAN cooperation with PIF and also with IORA.

The third thing Jokowi conveyed was solidarity with Palestine and a call to stop the genocide in Gaza. “The President (Jokowi) once more emphasized the importance of a ceasefire and an invitation to continue providing support to UNRWA, and the importance of a two-state solution,” he concluded.
