PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) claims that cyber attacks or data hacking such as the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) are currently not only occurring in Indonesia, but also in other countries.

“This also happens in other countries, not just in Indonesia,” said Jokowi at PT Hyundai LG Indonesia (HLI) Green Power, Karawang, West Java, Wednesday (3/7/2024).

Jokowi asked that all national data be backed up as an effort to prevent bad things like hacking from happening in the future.

But he did not provide concrete details on the evaluation needed to strengthen the national cyber system. He only emphasized that the most important thing is to find a solution so that the same incident does not happen again.

“Yes, we have evaluated everything. The most important thing is that we must find a solution so that it doesn’t happen again, back up all our national data so that if something happens, we won’t be surprised,” said Jokowi.

The President also responded to the emergence of an online petition urging Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi to resign from his position as a result of the PDNS hacking.

As many as 44 of them are in the process of immediate recovery because they have backups. Meanwhile, 238 other agencies are still in the process of being monitored.

Hackers also asked for a ransom of US$8 million or equivalent to Rp131 billion from the government if they wanted the data on PDNS 2 Surabaya to be returned.

Until now, no party has claimed responsibility behind the attack. On the other hand, BSSN also admitted that it has not been able to detect the hackers who targeted PDNS.
