Jokowi Believes IKN Can Boost Economic Growth in Agricultural Sector in Surrounding Areas – 2024-07-07 06:12:59

President Jokowi (Presidential Secretariat)

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo (Jokowi) assessed that the economic potential of the agricultural sector in the areas around the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) will increase. He believes there will be high demand for rice in the IKN.

“Later there will be demand, there will be demand from the new market called IKN, of course if there is excess rice production here it can be sent to IKN,” said the President following reviewing the pumping program in Layoa Village, Bantaeng Regency, South Sulawesi, Friday (5/7).

The presence of IKN is also predicted to increase demand for vegetable and onion agricultural products. This can be met through the surrounding areas, one of which is in South Sulawesi.

“There is excess vegetable production here that can be withdrawn to the IKN, there are red onions which also have a very good price, 30 thousand (per kg) and can be withdrawn to the IKN,” he continued.

Furthermore, President Widodo emphasized the strategic role of the IKN in driving a new wave of economic growth. This perspective is in line with the broader vision of making the IKN a model for sustainable city development.

“I think the IKN will be a new point of economic growth and we also want economic transformation to occur, especially related to the green economy,” he explained.

Previously, President Jokowi also visited Bulukumba Regency and checked the prices of basic commodities in the local market. The President appreciated agricultural productivity in South Sulawesi.

“Earlier I saw red onions for 30 thousand, chilies for 30 thousand, and others were all cheaper than in Java. After I asked, it turned out that here there is its own production in South Sulawesi, this is very good,” he said. (Z-8)
