Joint work seeks to ensure the safety and protection of children and adolescents who cross the border

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Adolescents (MINNA) and the Directorate of Migration, is working to streamline and digitalize the permit for minors in the country’s border areas, in order to guarantee the safety and protection of girls, boys and adolescents who cross borders for different reasons.

The key to this project lies in the digitalisation of the permit, allowing its issuance and control through secure codes and platforms. In this way, the need for physical documents is eliminated, reducing the risk of falsifications and speeding up the process for families.

MITIC Minister Gustavo Villate stressed that the application of technology to this measure represents a shield and security for users, since it will allow for greater control and traceability of the movements of girls, boys and adolescents. Meanwhile, Minister Gutiérrez emphasized that the goal is to establish legal mechanisms, through interoperable platforms, to strengthen security at the borders.

The project will be implemented as a pilot test plan at the borders with Brazil. “The pilot will be implemented in the test phase at the border crossings with Brazil, but we naturally hope that it will be extended to other border crossings in the future, consolidating a safer system for the mobility of girls, boys and adolescents,” said Minister Gutiérrez.

In addition to Minister Villate, the technical meeting of the project was attended by the Minister of MINNA, Walter Gutiérrez, the Vice Minister of Comprehensive Protection of Rights of MINNA, Eduardo Escobar Said, the Vice Minister of Regional Development of MINNA, Verónica Argüello, the General Director of Migratory Movement, Favio Espinoza, and the Chief of Staff of the Directorate of Migration, Karina Gómez, among others.
