This came in the statement issued by the tripartite Egyptian-Somali-Eritrean summit, which was held in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, based on the invitation of President Isaias Afwerki, President of the State of Eritrea, to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The statement issued by the heads of the three countries stressed the need to adhere to the basic principles and pillars of international law as they are the indispensable basis for regional stability and cooperation, especially absolute respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the countries of the region, confronting interference in the internal affairs of the countries of the region under any pretext or justification, and coordinating efforts. Joint efforts to achieve regional stability and create a climate conducive to common and sustainable development.
The issued statement stressed the development and deepening of cooperation and coordination between them in order to enhance the capabilities of Somali state institutions to confront various internal and external challenges, and to enable the Somali National Federal Army to confront terrorism in all its forms, protect its land and sea borders, and preserve its territorial integrity.
The statement explained that the summit discussed in greater depth and reached consensus on “the crisis in Sudan and its regional repercussions, the situation in Somalia in light of recent regional developments, issues of security and cooperation between the coastal states of the Red Sea, and the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the context of its utmost importance as a vital sea corridor, as well as “On diplomatic coordination mechanisms and joint efforts between the three countries.”
The statement issued by the three countries welcomed the efforts made by the State of Eritrea and the Arab Republic of Egypt to support stability in brotherly Somalia and enhance the capabilities of the federal government, and praised the offer of the Arab Republic of Egypt to contribute forces within the framework of peacekeeping efforts in Somalia.
According to the statement, the three African heads of state agreed to establish a joint tripartite committee of the foreign ministers of Eritrea, Egypt, and Somalia for strategic cooperation in all fields.
