The Joint Chiefs of Staff said today that from 6:01 to 6:23 a.m., North Korea detected two short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Samseok area in Pyongyang into the East Sea.
Military authorities are analyzing detailed specifications such as the range and altitude of the ballistic missile.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “We are maintaining a full readiness posture by closely cooperating with the US while strengthening surveillance and vigilance.”
The missile launch came two days following North Korea launched a medium-range ballistic missile, presumed to be a Hwasong-12, eastward from the Mupyong-ri area of Jagang Province on the 4th.
North Korea has launched ballistic missiles 22 times this year and cruise missiles twice this year, and it is the 10th missile launch since the Yun Seok-yeol government took office.
Earlier this morning, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement early this morning that “the United States is closely monitoring the fact that the United States is creating a grave threat to the stability of the situation on the Korean Peninsula and surrounding areas by re-introducing aircraft carrier strike groups into the waters of the Korean Peninsula.” .
The U.S. carrier strike group, which left the East Sea at the end of last month following completing a joint South Korea-U.S. exercise, returned to the East Sea as a response to a series of provocations, including the launch of medium-range ballistic missiles from North Korea, and plans to participate in the South Korea-U.S.-Japan joint exercise.
