The celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Office of Ports and Roads of Gabon (OPRAG), offers the opportunity to organize in the Gabonese capital, joint meetings of the Pan-African Association for Port Cooperation (ACPC) and the International Association of Ports and Roadsteads (IAPH). It was the Prime Minister of the transition, Raymond Ndong Sima, who kicked it off on Thursday at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
This conference, which brings together key players in the port and maritime sectors of Africa and the world, is held under the theme: “The path to resilient and smart African ports. What prospects? ».
Through this theme, the determination of the speakers to lay, from the Gabonese capital, the foundations of intensive cooperation and sharing of good practices, with a view to building the ports of tomorrow, capable of to overcome the many technological and security challenges and those linked to climate change.
“These challenges that we face today, whether it is attractiveness, competitiveness, maritime security or environmental preservation, go beyond national borders. They therefore require a closer collective and concerted approach. This is why we must redouble our efforts to strengthen subregional cooperation”opined the Director General of OPRAG, Martin Boguikouma, in his capacity as executive president of the APCP.
For his part, the Prime Minister of the transition, Raymond Ndong Sima, who welcomed the presence in Libreville of the cream of international port and maritime players, recommended “to the Director General of OPRAG, as well as to the entire port community, to fully capitalize on the resources and recommendations of this meeting to identify ambitious perspectives, because together we have the power to shape a more promising maritime and port future, more prosperous, more secure and more sustainable for all”he emphasized.
This joint conference of the APCP and the IAPH, which ends on Friday, is being held the day following the closing of the meeting of the technical committees of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa. (AGPAOC), of which OPRAG also ensures, through its Director General, Martin Boguikouma, the current presidency.
It was marked, during the first day of work, by valuable contributions from representatives of associations of port administrations and authorities from Southern and Eastern Africa, North Africa and the African Union Commission (AU). ).
