Johnny Depp has unveiled his first self-portrait.

Castle Fine Art released the actor’s painting, titled Five, for sale on Thursday. A limited time sale that will last 13 days. The artwork was painted in the same style as the 60-year-old star’s debut series, Friends & Heroes, and was inspired by a photo taken during a photo shoot for Christian Dior Perfumes in 2015.
“I did this at (illustrator) Ralph Steadman in his studio around 2021, explained Johnny Depp in a video interview with the Associated Press. This self-portrait was created at a time that was… let’s say a bit dark, a bit confusing. I looked at him and I don’t know why, I thought he needed something else. He needed more… information. »

Johnny Depp lost his lawsuit once morest the British tabloid The Sun, which called him a “woman hitter” in an article, in 2020. The actor also filed a defamation suit once morest his ex-wife Amber Heard, both of whom were found guilty at the end of the trial in Virginia which took place last year.
A press release said the Pirates of the Caribbean star “immersed himself in creating the artwork as a means of creative healing” in 2021 and returned to the project earlier this year. “It’s not easy to be comfortable doing a self-portrait,” the star admitted in the interview. Although, in a weird way, almost everything we do is a self-portrait in one way or another. »
Johnny Depp has revealed that a portion of the profits made from each print of the portrait will be donated to the non-profit organization Mental Health America. He described the organization as “an extremely worthy cause”.
The actor previously earned over $3.6 million when he released Friends & Heroes in 2022.
